IWC is introducing four new replica watches to their Portofino collection to kick off the replica watches & Wonders fair in Hong Kong today, and what they lack in size they make up for in glamorous detail and variety. Three of the replica watches form the new Portofino Midsize collection, sized in 37 mm, while the fourth is a 40 mm Portofino Automatic. Together, they represent no less than 20 new additions to the Portofino family. The theme? Diamonds.
The new Portofino Midsize collection includes the Automatic Moon Phase, Automatic Day & Night, and simply, the Automatic. Together they add 17 new references to the Portofino family, and each of them feature diamonds set within the bezel, lugs, and/or dial. Don't take that to mean that these are exclusively for the ladies. There are available dial colors and case materials that will feel right at home on the copy Rolex Mid-Size wrist of either gender. IWC feels that diamonds are right on trend, and has worked to incorporate them into a wide range of options.
The Portofino Midsize Automatic Moon Phase takes a classic approach to the complication, which was one of the first to appear on the original Portofino in 1984. The moon scene is set into a circular aperture at 12 o'clock and features a star-studded sky with a prominent moon applied. The Moon Phase can be had in white gold, red gold, and even steel. When dialed up to 11, you'll get 174 stones and a lacquered dial. You can dial it back by keeping just the stones around the bezel and hour markers. The Moon Phase is powered by a caliber 35800 automatic movement, and comes in five different references.
Next is the Portofino Midsize Automatic Day & Night, which gives you a 24-hour day/night display and a second time zone. The Day & Night comes in two references, offering a choice of steel or red-gold cases. Each are replete with 66 diamonds around the bezel, and 12 more in the mother of pearl dial to mark the hours. The 24 hour display is set into a ring inside the dial, with an hour by hour adjustable hand for indicating.
Rounding out the Portofino Midsize collection is the Automatic, which offers the deepest variety of the bunch. The Automatic is a simple three-hander with a date complication located at 3 o'clock. If diamond bezels aren't your thing, but you don't mind a little sparkle, the Automatic can be had with diamonds just at the hour makers. There are 10 different references of the Automatic, ranging from red-gold cases and 66-diamond bezels, to steel cases with slate colored dials and just 12 diamonds set into the dial.
In addition to the Portofino Midsize Collection, there is a 40 mm Portofino Automatic with three variants. Each offers a full suite of 72 diamonds around the bezel and dial, and will come only in gold cases (red or white).
To mark the launch of these watches, IWC hired German photographer and filmmaker Peter Lindbergh to document a unique take on the Portofino lifestyle. With the help of celebrities Cate Blanchett, Emily Blunt, Zhou Xun, Ewan McGregor and Christoph Waltz as well as models Adriana Lima and Karolina Kurkova, Lindbergh was set loose in the picturesque Italian harbor town of Portofino.
